The Sulaimanyah Health Department announced on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, that the issue of medicine shortages, lack of surgical equipment, and suspension of operations in local hospitals will be resolved by the end of the year.

This development came after strong pressure and efforts by the New Generation Movement, which had repeatedly raised concerns in both the Iraqi and Kurdistan parliaments. The faction had also held talks with the Iraqi Minister of Health to address the crisis and warned against privatizing public hospitals.

New Generation Movement criticized the authorities for failing to allocate sufficient funds for health services despite revenues from oil sales. The movement said it pressed Baghdad to provide part of the surgical supplies to ease the burden on Sulaimanyah hospitals and citizens.
