A member of the Iraqi Parliament’s Finance Committee said on Monday that the Kurdistan Region has not yet handed over its oil and other revenues to the federal government, accusing regional authorities of mixing the issue of salaries with the upcoming elections.
Muain Kazemi also criticized the Kurdistan Region’s leadership, stating that it bears responsibility for the suffering of its citizens due to a lack of transparency in dealing with Baghdad.
He added that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is attempting to use the election period to impose its conditions on the federal government, particularly with regard to the resumption of oil exports and other outstanding issues.
According to Kazemi, there is "clear negligence” by the region in fulfilling its obligations to deliver financial revenues, which has further deepened the crisis faced by the people.
