Mofaq Hussein, a member of the Iraqi parliament, has condemned the decision to suspend surgeries in public hospitals, describing it as an "inhuman attempt” by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) to exploit citizens’ health for profit.

According to Hussein, the director of health in Sulaimani has already announced that from next week no surgeries will be performed in public hospitals. He said that despite the PUK and KDP controlling oil and non-oil revenues—worth hundreds of billions of dinars each month—they are unwilling to allocate even a fraction of this income to cover hospital needs.

"This is an inhuman attempt by the PUK and KDP to trade in people’s health and lives, and to push patients toward their own private hospitals and companies,” Hussein stated.
