Kawa Abdulqadir, former MP from the New Generation Movement, has raised sharp questions about the financial management of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), criticizing the handling of oil revenues over the past two years and calling for a change in leadership.
In a statement on Tuesday, Abdulqadir said that despite the KRG reportedly owing $1 billion to private companies, there is no clear accounting of the region’s oil income over the past 27 months. According to him, the government has smuggled approximately 400,000 barrels of oil per day during this period.
"If the expired government sold a barrel of oil at just $30, the total revenue should be close to $10 billion,” he said. "Where has that money gone?”
Abdulqadir accused the ruling parties — the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) — of severe financial mismanagement and corruption. He said the situation in the Kurdistan Region will only worsen unless these two parties are removed from power.
"There is no such bad governance in any country in the world,” he stated. "As long as the PUK and KDP remain in control, the people will continue to suffer and the crisis will deepen.”
The remarks come amid ongoing financial difficulties in the Kurdistan Region, including salary delays, mounting public debt, and a lack of transparency around oil exports and revenue sharing.
