Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation on Monday with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to discuss recent developments in the region, according to a statement from the Iraqi prime minister’s office.
During the call, Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq’s rejection of Israeli airstrikes on Iran and condemned the dangerous escalation triggered by U.S. strikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities. He also emphasized Iraq’s firm stance on protecting its sovereignty by prohibiting the use of its airspace for foreign military operations.
President Putin welcomed Iraq’s position, expressing his appreciation for Baghdad’s commitment to de-escalation and its role in preserving regional stability. He also congratulated Iraq on its successful hosting of the recent Arab summit and reiterated his invitation for Iraq to participate in the upcoming Russia-Arab Summit scheduled for October.
