Sudani and Erdogan Sign Multiple Cooperation Agreements in Ankara

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Thursday, May 8, 2025, where the two leaders signed several memoranda of understanding covering a wide range of sectors.


Key agreements include the opening of Turkish university branches in Baghdad and Basra, cooperation in the defense industries, and a memorandum on judicial collaboration. The two sides also signed protocols related to the voluntary return of Iraqi citizens from Turkey, combating drug trafficking, and emergency management.


Additional agreements focused on digital public relations, measurement and calibration activities, and training support for Iraq’s Ministry of Home Affairs.


"We want to move forward quickly on issues such as the resumption of oil exports through the Iraq-Turkey oil pipeline,” President Erdogan stated during a joint press appearance.


Prime Minister Sudani reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to regional stability, saying, "We will not allow Iraqi territory to be used to attack any country.”
