The Iraqi President is expected to sign the law today, officially making Halabja the 19th province of Iraq.
Halabja will become the 19th province on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, after the president signs the bill, around 15 to 20 days after it was sent to the Ministry of Justice.
The Iraqi Parliament passed the bill on November 14, 2023. The New Generation Movement sent 17 formal requests to parliament to advance the process. Shaswar Abdulwahid Qadir, the leader of the movement, also urged the Speaker of Parliament to include the bill on the agenda.
