SULAIMANI — The Summit Foundation for Refugees and Displaced Affairs said on Monday (March 27) a boat carrying migrants near the southern Greek island of Crete was in danger.

Hussein Hama Salih, the organization's representative in Greece, said the boat is carrying 50 migrants, mostly Kurds, and includes children, according to the passengers.

Hama Salih said the migrants contacted the Crete coast guard themselves in hopes of rescue.

He said a rescue boat had pulled their vessel near the shore of Crete but subsequently left them stranded in the water.

Those operating the rescue boat did not take any of the migrants to the shore and the reason for them failing to do so is unknown, Hama Salih stated.
