SULAIMANI — Protests continued late Saturday (March 4) in
Greece over a tragic train accident earlier this week that left at least 57
people dead.
Hundreds of students and citizens of all ages attended the
rally organized by the youth organization of the Greek Communist Party (KNE) in
central Syntagma Square in Athens.
Protesters expressed their sadness for the victims and
criticism of the current and previous governments, which they held responsible
for the accident through banners they carried and slogans they shouted.
Theodoris Kostantis, a senior executive at KNE, argued that
the accident was a "premeditated crime” caused by the policies which
prioritized profit over life.
Protestors reiterated that they would strengthen their
struggle to become the "voice of the dead.”
"The crime should not be covered up,” they shouted.
They also remembered the victims of the earthquakes in
Turkey and Syria as well as the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Rallies organized by KNE took place in many other cities,
including Thessaloniki, Kalamata, Tripoli, Kavala, and Larissa.
