1,598 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Kurdistan Region: ministry

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Friday (July 23) it officially recorded 1,598 new cases of coronavirus infection over the past 24 hours.

There were 736 new cases in Duhok governorate, 453 in Erbil, 346 in Sulaimani, 59 in Garmian administration, and four in Raparin administration.

On June 20, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 1,985 infections.

The ministry also said twelve patients had died from the disease, while 911 others recovered.

According to the health ministry, there have been 210,818 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 190,392 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 4,660 have died from it.

The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
