SULAIMANI — The Directorate General of Counterterrorism (CTD) said on Wednesday (March 3) that security forces in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq have arrested two of the four main suspects in the rocket attack on Erbil on February 15.

Fourteen rockets hit locations on the north side of Erbil city, which killed two people and wounded eight others. Following the attack, the security forces found a Kia vehicle on the Erbil-Guer road from which the rockets were fired.

The directorate, which is part of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC), said in a statement that security forces in the Kurdistan Region arrested one of the suspects, and after exchanging information with the federal government and the International Coalition, the Iraqi Security Forces arrested another one.

It said that their investigation and efforts to arrest the other two suspects, who are still at large, are ongoing.

It named the first suspect as Haidar Hamza Abas, who it said made a confession and talked about how the attack was carried out.

The other suspects’ names were not given due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
