SULAIMANI —Erbil Anti-Drug Directorate said on Saturday (October 24) that the security forces had confiscated 2.846 kilograms of narcotics and arrested five suspects in three operations in Erbil governorate.

The narcotics included 1.7 kilogram of heroin and a suspect was arrested, the anti-drug directorate said in a statement, which is a part of the Kurdistan Region Asayish Council.

“A kilogram of crystal methamphetamine was seized and two suspects were arrested,” it said, adding that two other suspects were apprehended in another operation with 86 grams of crystal methamphetamine in their possession.

The Kurdistan Region largely acts as a transit route for narcotics coming from Iran and central Asia to Europe, with limited but growing domestic consumption, according to officials and activists.
