SULAIMANI — An activist and two journalists were arrested by the local security forces in Duhok governorate early on Thursday (October 22).

Activist Shivan Saeed was arrested in his home in Duhok city, while journalists Hariwan Isa and Gohdar Zebari were arrested in Akre district.

Both Isa and Zebari used to work for NRT, as a camera operator and reporter respectively.

The reason for their arrests is not known and it is unclear where they are being held.

The security forces have not yet released a comment.

In recent months, dozens of activists and journalists have been arrested by security forces in Erbil and Duhok governorates, which are controlled politically by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

Some have been released on bail, but others remain in custody, including Badal Barwari and journalists Omed Baroshki and Sherwan Sherwani.

The security forces also closed down NRT’s offices in both governorates on August 20 without presenting a legal justification. They remain closed.
