SULAIMANI — Iraq’s Minister of Foreign Relations Fuad Hussein said on Saturday (September 19) that Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi will visit France next month to promote economic development and pursue foreign investment.

During a joint press conference with French foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in Paris, Hussein said that they discussed political and security developments in Iraq and ways to strengthen relations between Paris and Baghdad.

Le Drian reiterated his country’s full readiness to support Iraq, including with regard to violations of its sovereignty by its neighbors.

Kadhimi’s visit follows closely on a trip to Baghdad by French President Emmanuel Macron on September 2 and visits to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region by Le Drian and French armed forces minister Florence Parly earlier in the summer.

Hussein is currently on a tour of European capitals, also recently meeting with his German counterpart Heiko Maas.
