SULAIMANI — Demonstrators gathered in Qaladze and Ranya for the second day on Thursday (August 13), calling for the government to step down and hold early elections.

NRT reporter Sabr Abdulla said that a number of protesters gathered in the public bazaar in Qaladze and closed down the main road in the market.

They were later dispersed by the security forces, who appeared to arrest several demonstrators. Some protesters were forced to delete video that they had recorded on their mobile phones by members of the security forces.

In Ranya, some protesters clashed with the security forces, who attempted to disperse a large demonstration in the middle of the town, according to an NRT reporter covering the demonstration.

In Erbil, the Kurdistan Region's capital, protesters were prevented from gathering all together by the local security forces.

The protests, which were organized primarily by the New Generation Movement, began on Tuesday in cities across the Region.
