Suspect arrested on femicide charges, opening fire on police in Erbil's Ankawa: police

SULAIMANI — Erbil Police Directorate said on Sunday (August 9) that its forces apprehended a suspect, who is now charged with killing a woman and opening fire on police forces.

An investigative team was formed from several different police units in the governorate after the Erbil Police Directorate was notified of the presence of a body dumped in Ankawa sub-district, according to a press release.

“It was discovered to be the body of a woman,” read the statement.

“The accused [man], with the initials A.S.N.,  opened fire on the police forces with an AK-47. He has confessed to his crime that he killed his wife,” the statement said, noting that another suspect was arrested for alleged involvement in the murder.

The two suspects had been detained and an investigation was launched into the incident in accordance with Article 406 of the Iraqi Penal Code, the statement added.
