SULAIMANI — Director of the Haji Omaran border crossing Masoud Bateli said on Friday (January 24) that all roads leading to the crossing were closed after heavy snow overnight.

Bateli told NRT Digital Media that 46 centimeters (18.1 inches) of snow fell in the area since Thursday.

“Snow fell more on the Iranian side of the border and it has not been cleared yet, which has made travelling through the border extremely difficult,” said Bateli.

He advised the people of the Kurdistan Region to not visit the area and, in case of an emergency, they should carry equipment in their cars to handle snow and winter weather.

According to the General-Directorate of Meteorology and Seismology in the Kurdistan Region the wave of snow will continue until Saturday and will be followed by freezing temperatures on Sunday.
