SULAIMANI — Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Ministry of Finance and Economy said on Wednesday (January 22) that it plans to offer new contracts to every employee in the Kurdistan Region.

According to the statement that bears the signature of the Minister of Finance and Economy Awat Janab, the ministry will renew contracts of every public sector employee in the Region.

This comes following the passage of the government's pension and salary reform law last week.

It was not immediately clear what the new contracts would entail, but it could go towards resolving demands by on-bond and non-contract employees for full employment.

In response to the 2014 financial crisis in the Kurdistan Region, the government instituted a number of austerity measures in an effort to save money, including many who were hired on contracts that paid them less and granted fewer benefits as a cost-saving measure.

New Generation lawmaker in the Kurdistan Parliament Kawa Abdulqadir said on Tuesday that the Parliament should meet as soon as possible to resolve the issue of on-bond employees.
