SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Parliament on Monday (January 20) sent the recently-passed pension reform bill to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for review and signature.

In a statement it said that the government now has ten days for review and can return it to the Parliament for amendment if necessary. If amendment is requested by the government, then a committee will be set up to review the proposed changes. The Parliament would then decide whether to accept those changes or send the legislation back unchanged.

The legislation passed on Thursday with 89 votes in favor, despite protests from activists and opposition parties who said that it primarily benefits senior government officials at the expense of ordinary government workers and people dependent on government social services.
