Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Sudani’s economic adviser, Mazhar Mohammed Saleh, says the revenues of the 2026 federal budget will be close to this year’s budget ceiling of 200 trillion dinars.

He explained that Iraq’s three-year budget for 2023, 2024, and 2025 set the annual spending limit at a maximum of 200 trillion dinars, while the annual deficit exceeds 60 trillion dinars. Despite this, he confirmed that this year’s revenues are sufficient to cover all expenditures until the end of the year, including payments, projects, and investment allocations.

Saleh added that although the Ministry of Finance has not yet begun drafting the 2026 budget, the government expects next year’s revenues to be similar to those of 2025.

Meanwhile, according to current law, if a new budget is not passed in 2026, the government can continue spending on payments, essential services, and strategic projects.
