The New Generation Movement  has stated that the arrest of its leader, Shaswar Abdulwahid Qadir, is a political move, not a legal matter. The faction, speaking from Baghdad and Erbil, accused the two main ruling parties in the Kurdistan Region, the PUK and KDP, of targeting the movement due to its rivalry with them.

Shaswar Abdulwahid Qadir was arrested after warning that the region must address salary issues or face serious action from the movement. The New Generation Movement claims authorities have not disclosed his whereabouts or brought him to court, raising concerns about his safety.

The faction said the Sulaimani police themselves admitted at a press conference that they did not know where Abdulwahid was being held. Several MPs from the movement visited multiple police stations in Sulaimani, but all denied holding him, which the faction cites as proof that the case is politically motivated rather than judicial.

The New Generation Movement further accused some judges of being under party influence and emphasized that such tactics are a form of "gangster behavior” by the PUK and KDP. They warned that the arrest reflects the PUK’s fear of the upcoming elections and urged for judicial independence, invoking the case of Awad Bandar as a reminder of past political pressure on judges.
