The United States will suspend its financial assistance to the Peshmerga forces under the 2026 military budget draft, according to a report by The Monitor on Wednesday. While the budget slashes aid to the Peshmerga from $189.1 million to $48.2 million in 2025, funding to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) will continue.
The Pentagon’s support for Iraq's Counterterrorism Agency is set to increase significantly, rising from $9.3 million to $63.6 million. The final version of the U.S. military budget is expected to be enacted by the end of October 2025.
