Sarwa Abdulwahid, leader of the New Generation faction in the Iraqi Parliament, issued a strong condemnation of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on Monday, accusing them of corruption, oppression, and violence against citizens.

Speaking in response to the killing of a demonstrator in Warte, Abdulwahid alleged that the person responsible was a member of the KDP-forces, "You are stealing the people's money, oppressing them, and killing them. May God curse you in this world and the Hereafter for the crimes you are committing against this people,” she said in a statement.

On Sunday night, residents of Warte and Balisan in the Soran area held demonstrations protesting electricity shortages and a lack of basic services. One protester was killed and several others injured during the incident, which was captured on video and widely circulated online.
