The Federal Supreme Court of Iraq held its first consultative meeting under the leadership of its newly appointed president, with all members in attendance, to discuss the court’s operational framework and reaffirm its constitutional role.

Following the meeting, the court issued a statement reaffirming its strict adherence to its constitutional responsibilities as outlined in Articles 32 and 93 of the Iraqi Constitution, and Article 4 of Law No. 30 of 2005, as amended by Law No. 25. The statement emphasized that the court will not extend its powers beyond what is constitutionally defined in order to maintain judicial independence and prevent political interference.

The court underlined its commitment to impartiality and equal treatment of all political entities. It reiterated that its primary role is to safeguard Iraq’s political system and ensure respect for the constitutional rights of all Iraqi communities.

Moreover, the Federal Supreme Court stressed that it will not intervene in the affairs of the legislative or executive branches unless their actions violate the Constitution. It also confirmed it will not involve itself in any political matters related to the upcoming general elections, in accordance with Article 93.
