Saudi Arabia’s Interior Ministry has announced that security forces have prevented more than 269,000 people from illegally entering Mecca to perform this year’s Hajj pilgrimage without proper authorization.

In a statement on Monday, the ministry revealed that 269,678 Saudi residents were intercepted while attempting to infiltrate Mecca. Among them, 75,943 individuals were arrested for violating Hajj regulations, along with 252 unauthorized supervisors, while 109,632 vehicles used in the smuggling attempts were confiscated.

The Interior Ministry emphasized that strict penalties will be imposed on violators. Authorities also warned that anyone caught attempting to perform Hajj without a valid permit could face a fine of up to 20,000 Saudi riyals (approximately $5,300).

To enhance security, Saudi officials are deploying drones, advanced electronic systems, smart ID cards, and artificial intelligence-powered surveillance to monitor access routes and ensure compliance with Hajj regulations.

The ministry reiterated that the measures are part of ongoing efforts to maintain order and ensure the safety of pilgrims during one of the world's largest religious gatherings.
