More than 1.76 million Iraqi citizens are now insured under the national health insurance program, according to Ali Ahmad, director of the Health Insurance Fund. He announced Wednesday that the scheme will expand early next year to include six additional provinces: Basra, Maysan, Dhi Qar, Najaf, Karbala, and Babylon.
Two more provinces are also expected to join soon. Ahmad emphasized that the program aims to provide affordable healthcare to all citizens, reducing the need for treatment abroad.
