Baghdad International Airport has suspended all flights on Thursday due to bad weather caused by a heavy dust storm, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Transportation.
Ministry spokesman Maysam Safi told the Iraqi News Agency that the suspension was temporary and applies exclusively to Baghdad International Airport. He emphasized that air traffic over the rest of Iraq remains unaffected and continues as normal.
Safi noted that authorities would reassess the situation one hour after the initial closure to determine whether flight operations could resume or if the suspension needed to be extended, depending on weather conditions.
A wave of heavy dust has covered most regions of Iraq for several days, significantly reducing visibility and prompting health and safety precautions.
