A powerful sandstorm has swept across Iraq, hospitalizing more than 3,700 people with respiratory issues, the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday.
A total of 3,747 individuals were admitted to hospitals in Baghdad and several other provinces since Monday. Baghdad recorded the highest number of cases with 1,014 people hospitalized, followed by Al-Muthanna province in the south with 874 cases.
According to the Health Ministry, most of the patients have recovered and been discharged. No fatalities were reported.
The Ministry also confirmed that there were no shortages in medical supplies, including oxygen and medications, during the incident.
Although sandstorms are a regular occurrence in Iraq, experts warn that their frequency is increasing due to the impact of climate change. Iraq is considered one of the countries most vulnerable to environmental shifts.
