SULAIMANI — Esmail Ghaani, the commander of Iran's Islamic
Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, arrived in Iraq on an unannounced
visit on Friday (March 31).
A source told al-Araby news that Ghaani has met with
political and security officials in Najaf.
The source has stated after his visit to Najaf, Ghaani
traveled to Baghdad where he met with militia leaders and discussed the
developments in the area, particularly the recent incidents in Syria.
Ghaani’s visit to Iraq comes after US airstrikes targeting
Iran-backed militias killed at least 19 militia members in eastern Syria.
The airstrikes were in retaliation for attacks carried out
by pro-Iran groups on US military bases in Syria.
