SULAIMANI — Residents of of the Kurdish town of Jinderes in
Aleppo’s Afrin district protested the presence of a Turkish-backed armed faction
on Tuesday (March 21) after four civilians were killed in a clash with the
group the previous evening.
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria
(AANES) said four people were killed by members of the Ahrar al-Sharqiya armed
group in the town of Jinderes on Monday.
Residents of Jinderes held a protest calling for members of
Ahrar al-Shariyah to be expelled from the district, the Syrian Observatory for
Human Rights said.
The group is affiliated with the Turkish-backed Syrian
National Army.
AANES said in a statement the victims were killed while
lighting fires in celebration of the Newroz holiday.
The AANES is calling on the international community to limit
Turkey’s occupation of Syrian territory.
North Press Agency cited local sources and stating the
incident occurred after an argument between Ahrar al-Sharqiya members and
Jinderes residents, that two other people were seriously wounded in the
incident and the four killed were from a Peshmerga family.
Thousands gathered on Tuesday at the funeral of the four
killed in the incident, Hawar News Agency said. The four victims were Farhan
al-Din Muhammad Othman, 43, Nazmi Othman, 38, Muhammad Farah al-Din Othman, 18,
and Muhammad Muhammad Othman, 42.
