SULAIMANI— A suspect
is at large after killing two Salahadin University teachers and injuring a
guard in two separate incidents in Erbil on Tuesday (June 28).
The suspect is said to
be a disgruntled former student.
The dean of Salahadin
College of Law, Karwan Ismail, and a guard were seriously injured in a shooting
incident inside the university campus around 0830 (local time).
Erbil Governor Omed
Khoshnaw said today that Ismail later died of his injuries in the hospital.
Khoshnaw said Ismail
was shot five times while the guard was in a stable condition at the
hospital.
Body found
Earlier today, Erbil
Police said that the body of Salahadin University teacher Irdis Ezzat was found
near his home.
NRT's reporter Rizgar
Kochar said the suspect had issues with both victims.
Kochar said that the
suspect had tried to transfer from Soran University to Salahadin University;
however, dean Karwan Ismail had not accepted the transfer.
The suspect had then
threatened the victim, a plaintiff in a case against him.
Kochar added that a
court hearing on the suspects' threats was scheduled today before the shooting
incidents.
Dismissed student
Erbil Governor Omed
Khoshnaw said that the suspect is known to the law enforcement officers and
"must hand himself in".
He said the suspect
was a former Soran University student who had been dismissed and tried to get
admitted to Salahadin University.
He added that he had
threatened several teachers from both universities.
Khoshnaw said the
suspect had been detained earlier in relation to the threats.
