SULAIMANI — The leader of the Sadrist Movement,
Muqtada al-Sadr, on Friday (March 4) called for a truce amid Russia’s military invasion
of Ukraine and blamed American policy for the situation there.
Sadr stressed during his Friday sermon that international organizations must
demand an immediate truce in order to remove the dead and wounded from both
sides and to deliver food and medical supplies.
He also asked for Russia to review its decision to go to war and to work on
serious dialogue with Ukraine.
Sadr stated Ukraine was suffering "because of American policy there” and
said the suffering of the people there was a "shame on humanity.”
The Shia cleric said he prayed for other countries suffering war, including Yemen, "with
which we are united as brothers in religion.”
