SULAIMANI — Forecasters are calling for rain showers in some areas of Iraq on Tuesday (September 18) with data from satellites predicting the start of the rainy season by the end of this month or the beginning of next month.

"There are opportunities for light showers in western Anbar and parts of the north and possibly Saladin governorate on Tuesday evening and early Wednesday," said Sadiq Attiyah, a senior forecaster at Basra International Airport.

He pointed out that the current satellite images and predictions of future global weather models indicate that clouds will continue to flow into the central and western parts of Iraq in the days ahead, adding that temperatures will continue to moderate during the night."

On the subject of future long-term rainfall, Attiyah said that, based on the maps, he is optimistic that rains will begin at the end of September or the beginning of October.
