SULAIMANI – Kurdish farmers held a protest in Said Sadiq on Monday (September 17) demanding payment for this year's wheat harvest.

The farmers blocked the main road between Said Sadiq and Penjwen, NRT reporter Omar Fatah said.

The farmers’ bank notified them that they will receive their money at the same time as farmers from Erbil and Duhok.

The protesting farmers said that they had expected to receive payment for their crop on September 11.

“The money has already been transferred, but they [the bank] won’t distribute it,” one protesting farmer said.

Earlier this month, the Iraqi government announced a decision not to take wheat harvest transfers from farmers in the Kurdistan Region in 2018.
