Two rockets fired in Kifri district, one person wounded: local security official

SULAIMANI — Two rockets were fired from Gullm Kawa Mountain in Kifri district in Garmian administration on Sunday (April 18), according to a local security official.

Later it was reported that one person had been wounded and transported to a hospital for treatment.

The area is known as an area where Islamic State (ISIS) militants operate.

In a statement following the attack, the Garmian administration’s Relations and Media Department assured residents that “terrorists” cannot disrupt the peace and security of Kifri with such “cowardly” acts.

It confirmed that the rocket attack slightly injured one person without causing any other damage or casualties, adding that the situation was now normal and that the Peshmerga and local security forces remain vigilant.

Last week, a drone attacked Erbil Airbase and three rockets were fired at a Turkish military base near Bashiqa, killing a soldier and wounding a teenage girl. Those attacks were blamed on militias within the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).

All three attacks highlight the continued threat posed by armed groups operating in an around the disputed areas.
