SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday (April 14) it had officially recorded 1,159 new cases of coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours.

There were 541 new cases in Duhok governorate, 353 in Sulaimani, 197 in Erbil, 59 in Garmian administration, and nine in Halabja.

Since April 4, there have been more than 1,000 new cases each day except for April 6 and 10.

On October 27, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 1,597 infections. During the autumn surge, there were a total of fifteen days above 1,000 new cases between October 19 and November 12, with two five-day streaks.

The ministry also said seventeen patients had died from the disease, while 485 others recovered.

According to the health ministry, there have been 135,815 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 115,330 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 3,831 have died from it.
