SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Monday (March 8) it had officially recorded 344 new cases of coronavirus over the past 24 hours.

There were 162 new cases in Erbil governorate, 89 in Duhok, 87 in Sulaimani, and six in the Garmian administration.

On October 27, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 1,597 infections.

The ministry also said four patients had died from the disease, while 114 others recovered.

Earlier, KRG Minister of Health Saman Barzinji said in a statement that most of the new cases are the UK coronavirus variant.

According to the health ministry, there have been 110,856 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 104,602 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 3,541 have died from it.

The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
