SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday (March 3) it had officially recorded 237 new cases of coronavirus over the past 24 hours.

There were 112 new cases in Erbil governorate, 72 in Duhok, 45 in Sulaimani, and eight in the Garmian administration.

On October 27, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 1,597 infections.

The ministry also said three patients had died from the disease, while 174 others recovered.

Last week, KRG Minister of Health Saman Barzinji said in a statement that most of the new cases are the UK coronavirus variant.

According to the health ministry, there have been 109,587 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 103,918 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 3,525 have died from it.

The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
