SULAIMANI — Head of Sulaimani Provincial Council Azad Muhammed said on Wednesday (March 3) that the Council will not abide by any decision issued by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) that is against decentralizing powers from Erbil to the Region's governorates.

Muhammed said during a press conference that the decisions of the KRG are against decentralization and leads to more administrative routine at government offices.

As an example, he said that the KRG Ministry of Interior has formed a committee to give licenses and observe adherence to safety instructions and measures at commercial building, hotels, motels, gas stations, and similar places, when the Sulaimani Civil Defense Directorate and two other committees of the city council are responsible of them.

On February 3, Deputy Head of Sulaimani Provincial Council Barzan Sheikh Muhammad said that a draft by-law decentralizing powers to the Kurdistan Region’s governorates has been sent to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Council of Ministers for consideration and approval.
