SULAIMANI — An advisor to Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani said on Tuesday (March 2) that any final political decisions regarding a deal between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad are made by Barzani.

Advisor Masoud Haider said during NRT’s Tawtwe interview program that the political parties consider Barzani their representative in directing the Region’s policy in Baghdad and “in fact, Barzani is Kurds’ leader in settling the issues.”

He said that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) should support the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) delegation to Baghdad without hesitation and should not oppose it. Most of the delegations have been leg by KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani or KRG Minister of State Khalid Shwani, both members of the PUK.

Regarding the presence of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Sinjar, Haidar alleged that the group has increased its forces in the district and has occupied people’s homes, adding that the KRG and the federal government do not accept anyone stationing armed forces in Sinjar in contravention of the October agreement.

He said that the KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is adamant about implementing reform law, but it is important for the other parties in the government not to prevent him from doing so.

In the past, Prime Minister Barzani has claimed that others are putting obstacles in his way to implementation of the law, which was passed last January, but has provided little evidence to support that claim.
