Kurdistan Region passes 75,000 coronavirus cases; logs 1,002 infections: ministry

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Friday (October 30) it had recorded 1,002 new cases of coronavirus infections in the region over the past 24 hour.

The Region continues to experience troublingly high numbers of new infections with 1,597 new cases recorded on Tuesday, the highest single-day total yet.

A total of 427 of the newest cases were in Erbil governorate, along with 331 in Duhok, 163 in Sulaimani, 38 in the Garmian administration, 32 in Halabja, and eleven in the Raparin administration.

The Region logged more than 1,000 new cases per day over five days last week from October 19 to October 23. Cases this week have been just as high.

The Ministry also said twenty-five patients had died from the virus, while 532 recovered from the disease.

According to the health ministry, there have been 75,336 officially-recorded cases of the coronavirus in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 42,608 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 2,431 have died from it.
