SULAIMANI — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with European Union Ambassador to Iraq Martin Huth on Thursday (September 24) for talks about improving economic and investment cooperation.

According to a statement published by the KRG, Barzani said that his government continues to implement its reform agenda despite the Region’s financial struggles, in order to “further the development of the Kurdistan Region.”

The Kurdistan Parliament passed a limited salary and pension reform package in January.

Huth said that the EU is ready to further develop bilateral relations with the Kurdistan Region and would encourage European businesses to invest, the statement added.

The ambassador’s public agenda in Erbil began on Wednesday, when he met with KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani.

Huth also toured a technology company that has developed a mobile application for medical consultations in response to the coronavirus outbreak, which has provided job opportunities for fifteen young people, according to a tweet from the UN Development Programme.
