SULAIMANI — Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Politburo member Mahmood Muhammed said on Wednesday (September 23) that preparations for the party’s congress continue, despite a delay imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

He told his party’s official media outlet that the relevant committees and officials continue to work on an agenda for the eventual meeting, but did not give an indication of when it might be held.

“The preparations are in progress. And the [KDP] will definitely hold its congress when this pandemic allows,” he said.

Regarding relations with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Muhammed said that the two parties recognize that working together despite their differences will give strength to the “Kurdistani political process” in the Region and in Baghdad.

“We have to work with different points of view, some where we are partners and some where we are not. We need to have more talks about our differences,” he added.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party, which has 45 seats in the Kurdistan Parliament, held its last congress in 2010.
