SULAIMANI — Federal Migration and Displacement Minister Evan Faiq on Sunday (September 20) met with Aya Abbas Thanoun, a young Turkoman survivor who lost her family during the Islamic State (ISIS) attack on Sinjar in 2014.

“The stories recounted by the young 11-year-old survivor, as well as the rest of the survivors in the camps, paint a clear picture of the widespread and systematic criminal pattern practiced by Daesh [ISIS] criminal gangs against the ethnic and religious components in the country,” Faiq said during a meeting, according to a statement released by the ministry.

Faiq also allocated a monthly fund from her salary for Thanoun, who lives in an orphanage in Karbala governorate.

During the meeting, the girl related her traumatic experience while held captive by the militant group.
