SULAIMANI — Two healthcare workers at Kalar General Hospital were each sentenced to six years in prison on Sunday (September 20) after they were convicted of stealing medicine and equipment from the hospital’s surgery unit.

After the items were removed from the government-run hospital in late January, the stolen goods were first sold to a medical supply store, before then being sold on to Kalar Private Hospital.

NRT Digital Media reporter Garmian Hamapur said that local police declined to comment on the convictions due to the ongoing nature of the case.

More than 30 other people have been implicated in the thefts, including employees at both hospitals, according to a police statement when initial arrests were made in February.
