Kurdistan Region nears 40,000 recorded coronavirus cases, 1,500 deaths: ministry

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health said on Friday (September 18) that it has recorded 605 cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region over the past 24 hours and is nearing 40,000 total recorded infections.

The milestone comes just over two weeks after it passed 30,000 cases on September 3.

A total of 254 of the newest cases are in Erbil governorate, along with 190 in Duhok, 107 in Sulaimani, 28 in Halabja, and 26 in the Garmian administration.

The ministry also said that twenty-six patients have died from the virus, while 471 patients recovered from the disease.

According to the health ministry, there have been 39,946 cases of coronavirus in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 25,263 patients has recovered from COVID-19 and 1,472 have died from it.
