SULAIMANI — Iraq’s Security Media Cell said on Thursday (August 13) that two Islamic State (ISIS) militants were killed by the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) on the outskirts of Kirkuk city.

“A force from the Hashd al-Shaabi’s 16th Brigade was able to kill two terrorists, [traveling] on a three-wheeled motorcycle, who were carrying several explosive devices with them and wanted to bring them into Kirkuk,” the media cell said, using the Arabic-language term for the PMF.

“The motorcycle and the bombs were seized by the on-duty force,” it added.

Additionally, the federal Ministry of Interior’s Intelligence and Investigations Agency said that an Islamic State (ISIS) administrative leader was arrested in Nineveh governorate’s Zummar district, according to a statement published by the state-run Iraqi News Agency.

ISIS militants use the disputed areas as a base of operations to attack civilian and military targets in Nineveh, Saladin, Kirkuk, and Diyala governorates.
