SULAIMANI — Saladin Operations Command said on Saturday (August 8) that its forces killed three Islamic State (ISIS) militants in the governorate.

“The forces of the Joint Operation Command and the Saladin Operation Command conducted an operation to chase [ISIS] militants in northern Tharthar Valley,” Saladin Operations Command’s Major General Abdlmuhsin Hatim said during a press conference.

“During the operation, six tunnels and four hideouts belonging to [ISIS] militants were destroyed in the area,” he added.

ISIS uses the disputed areas as a base of operations to attack civilian and military targets in Nineveh, Saladin, Kirkuk, and Diyala governorates, with the number of attacks increasing during the first half of 2020.
