SULAIMANI — The People's Defense Forces (HPG) claimed in a statement on Thursday (August 6) that the group’s fighters killed five Turkish soldiers in the Haftanin area of Duhok governorate on August 4.

The HPG is the armed wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The Turkish military launched air and ground operations into the Kurdistan Region and northern Iraq on June 15, which it said was necessary to protect itself from the PKK.

In a separate statement, HPG revealed the identities of three of its fighters who were killed during an operation in Turkey’s Van province on July 2.
