SULAIMANI — A major roadway between Koya and Dukan districts was closed for repairs starting on Tuesday (August 4), shutting down a main artery between Sulaimani and Erbil.

Koya Traffic Directorate Chief Zahir Muhammad told NRT Digital Media that the Kilka Simaq road has been closed at Haibat Sutan Mountain.

Repairs are expected to take a week to complete.

“Drivers who are coming from Sulaimani to Erbil or vice versa and do not want to use the other roads can use the Koya-Akhjalar road,” Muhammad said.

As a measure to control the coronavirus outbreak, most traffic between the governorates has been prohibited. Nevertheless, local traffic and specifically authorized inter-provincial traffic will be affected by the closure.
